Real Estate Broker wins in Powerball lottery PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 22 September 2006
A Raleigh real estate broker and a furniture maker from North Carolina won $200,000 in the NC Powerball Lottery.  Officials said that the real estate broker James A. Harrison purchased his $200,00 ticket at Han-Dee Hugo #46 on Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh. He told the lottery that he always purchases Powerball tickets at that store, which is close to his home.

Harrison told the lottery that after he bought the ticket, he had just finished watching a football game on WRAL last Saturday night when he saw the winning numbers were being drawn.

"The news came on late that night," he told the NC Lottery. "When I saw the balls come down I realized I had three numbers. Then I saw that I had four numbers. I got up and went into another room to get my ticket and saw I had all five numbers. I was thrilled."

Harrison told the lottery that he had never played the lottery until it came to North Carolina and said he plans to use the money for home improvements, help start a small retail business, and pay bills.

The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) introduced two new scratch off games this month as well.

Since its inception through Sept. 17, the NCEL has reached more than $426 million in sales. The NCEL has also paid out approximately $200 million in prizes to North Carolina players.  :::
