Sarasota County has reached its target for three years. It was announced last week that the county was one of 10 local governments to win what the National Civic League calls the "Nobel Prize" of community involvement.

The county's online communication manager is Bruce Brooks. Accoding to him, it means more than having a pretty sign at the gateways to the county.

He said that certainly having the logo and having the designation has a tourism and economic development impact. However, it was as much a celebration of the community. He said that it is a struggle to find ways to reward volunteers, and to reward an active and engaged community, and this is one of those ways.

The designation for "All-America County" will be recognized during the County Commission Board meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, at North Port City Hall.
