City officials of Bradenton are getting closer to approving a project that would bring 15-story condominium towers to a residential neighborhood on the Manatee River.
Wednesday, the Tarpon Pointe project came to the city council without the support of area residents or the city's planning staff. The City Council gave its preliminary approval to the project, pending a second, final vote. Tarpon Pointe developer Scott Tibbetts, the former director of the Downtown Development Authority, bought and will raze seven homes on Sixth Street Northeast. In addition to the condo towers, plans call for a 198-slip marina and restaurant. Tibbetts wanted to build 19-story towers, but lowered the height after city planners objected. The council put off voting on a second large-scale, high-rise condo project planned for the same area. By M. Sese http://realestatepress.org |
