Florida-based Attorneys' Title Insurance Fund, Inc. (The Fund) conducted a survey and reported that Sunshine State homeowners are more concerned about the next tropical storm than the depreciation of their homes.
The Fund polled more than 1,000 Florida homeowners between May and June about their concerns and obstacles in homeownership in a statewide campaign to educate on the buying and selling process. Despite indicators pointing to a slowing of Florida's housing boom, 58 percent of homeowners think the value of their homes will continue to rise over the next 12 months. In fact, the survey reveals 47 percent of Floridians were concerned about being hit by a storm than the impact of a housing bubble (16 percent), rising mortgage interest rates (13 percent), depreciating home values (5 percent) or becoming the victim of real estate fraud (1 percent). However, Floridians are split in their views on whether now is the best time to buy real estate. Homeowners in select regions like Orlando, Sarasota county and West Palm Beach are more optimistic in their outlook and believe right now is the time to buy, whereas in regions such as Broward County, Miami-Dade and Tampa homeowners think otherwise.
