There is cooling in the boom in construction of single-family homes in the Midstate. In April, homebuilders pulled 112 fewer permits for such homes compared with the same month a year earlier, according to monthly economic indicators compiled by the Business and Economic Research Center at Middle Tennessee State University.
Permits were issued for 1,111 housing units, down 9 percent from 1,223 last year. David Penn, an economist at MTSU said that it could be builders are anticipating or experiencing slower demand for new houses or simply unable to generate enough houses either because of problems purchasing or finding new lots to build on or getting building permits. Building permits are an indicator of future construction. The slower growth isn't necessarily a bad thing, said Brian Laster, president of Franklin research firm InfoSource. By M.
