Whirlpool's recent decision to close the Maytag facilities in Newton made real estate analysts believe that this would make a big drag on home prices not only in Jasper County but all across central Iowa.
Iowa has already witnessed the effect of losing a big employer. Places that were most affected were the employees coming from Marshalltown where all of them were laid off. Arthur Cox, professor in University of Northern Iowa, Maytag's shut down would cause property values going down, ongoing businesses dropping and unsold homes increasing in number. By M.
